WEEK 13: Study John 8:1-30

This week (November 25 thru December 1), please study John, Chapter 8:1-30

Download the MP3: Click here to download an MP3 of the chapter. (As always, the password is "quizpad" without the quotes.)

If you'd like to read a commentary on the chapter, click here. (Free website, Bible.Org)

Study Tip: For some people, the best way to make the Bible a priority in your life is to put it at the start of every day. Rather than waiting for after homework, dinner, or whatever else you normally put before studying, consider setting your alarm 15 minutes earlier in the morning and spending that time reading thru that week's chapter. This can set the tone for your day, and give you a chance to apply the lessons of the chapter in your daily life.

WEEK 12: Review John 1-3

If you want to read the chapters online, click here. (Free website Biblegateway.Com)

Download the MP3: Click here to download a ZIP file including MP3s of the chapters. (As always, the password is "quizpad" without the quotes.)

Study Tip: Reviewing is often harder than your initial studying because the material is no longer new. In fact, some quizzers decide not to study because "I already know it." BAD IDEA! The brain is designed to forget things we do not review or use regularly. Be sure this week to review Chapters 1 thru 3 of John. If you are looking for a new way to view the book, try to look for how each chapter flows into the next, and the way that John tried to relate scenes and incidents.

Study Tip: Have you noticed over time that you come to associate certain places with certain activities? Sportspeople find themselves automatically putting on their game face as they walk into a gym. Have you considered doing your studying in the same place every day? After a while, your mind will learn to associate that place with focus and concentration, and getting into the zone will be just a little easier.

HUMOR: You be Jesus

A pastor’s wife was preparing pancakes for her young sons. The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake. Their Mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson. If Jesus were sitting here, He would say, "Let my brother have the first pancake. I can wait." The oldest boy turned to his younger brother and said, "You be Jesus."

Study Tip: During the holiday season, it becomes increasingly difficult to stay focused on Quiz Team. Parties, concerts, plays, etc. eat more and more into your daily study time. How do you cope? First, accept the fact that your life will have competing priorities and that sometimes Quiz Team can't be #1. Second, realize that we only HAVE time if we MAKE TIME. Set aside some time every day for studying. Make it the same time, as much as possible, and try to be disciplined. Eventually, study time will become a habit, and something you won't have to work so hard to keep up.

The Bible and Election Day

Today is Election Day, when Americans go to the polls to cast votes for our legislators and leaders for the next 2 to 6 years. Have you ever wondered what the Bible has to say about Voting, since it predated our Constitution by 1700 years? OpenBible.Info has collected together a number of verses on government and leadership. There is some good stuff in here.
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad.
My reading of the group? Do your civic duty by both voting. But be aware that it is God who raises up leaders, and we should obey them unless their laws/orders oppose the will of God.
