What is Dagney doing these days?

Dagney is off and living in Wisconsin with the EFCA International Mission, as a bone fide Calvary Church Missionary. So where is she headed next? Thailand!
Well, we leave June 20 and will get there via, Tokyo and Bangkok and finally arrive in Chiang Mai June 22. We'll be almost 12 hrs ahead of the Eastern USA. We will immediately join a goodbye celebration for a veteran EFCA guy and a team of US adults who are leaving after 2 weeks working on the project. Most of the weekedays we will be laying brick, tying steel and laying concrete.
I guess being a homeland missionary was not enough. Be praying for our newest missionary as she travels in the Far East.

More Calvary 2 Madness!

Calvary 2 played Renfro this past Wednesday, but that is not nearly the most interesting news to report. Nope. That would be that this coming Wednesday they are playing against Christian Heritage School! If you attend CHS, come on out and root for them. If you don't, come on out and cheer for Matt!

Click on the photo above to see all the pictures from the Renfro game.

Dr & Mrs Ron have TWINS!

Not more than 3 days since receiving his doctorate, former Quizzer Ron Fay and his wife Sarah have had twins!
James Robert (4 lbs 8 oz)
John Bowen (4 lbs 0 oz)
Please be praying for the twins, as they were born 9 weeks premature and thus have some medical issues at present.

Congrats, Special J

A hearty "well-done" to Special J whose team is the Trumbull Babe Ruth 13 year old Champs.

Nationals Oops!

I said yesterday that any quizzer going to Nationals who wants to do the Bible Knowledge Test had to alert the coaches, so we could sign you up. Turns out I had misread the e-mail we got. We received a correction yesterday.
If someone contacts me (either a sponsor or the quizzer), he can take it whenever we are offering it. Currently it looks like we will offer it during registration - which might be more difficult if a group aren't taking it then. I will be at a table outside of the rally the first couple days, so [the teens] can touch base with me then.
I think that the other options for Bible Knowledge will be late afternoon after quizzing is over on Tuesday and/or Wednesday from 1:30 until suppertime in Stewart - Room 322. (If we end up doing double elimination, which people are voting on now, we might have it most of Tuesday afternoon from 1:30 on.)
Sorry for any confusion.

Nationals Notes

We mentioned about a week back about the possibility of anyone going to Nationals being able to either (1) take the Bible Knowledge Test or (2) help out with scoring or timing during quizzes. Ruth Bradley wrote with a few reminders about these things. First, if you do want to do the Bible Knowledge Test, we need to tell her ahead of time. So please advise the coaches ASAP. Second, a note about the dress code...
REMEMBER – the Free Church Quiz Guidelines state that "The dress of the quizzers shall be appropriate, neat, and modest. At the Challenge Quiz Tournament, teams are encouraged to be identified by a team shirt." Shorts are considered inappropriate not only for quizzers, but also for coaches and quizmasters...There are a couple of items that come to mind right now based on a discussion several years ago -
#1. Nothing sleeveless
#2. No clothing with a bare midriff
#3. No 'underwear' showing
#4. T-shirts that have ‘secular ads’ on them are not appropriate for quizzing
#5. Out of common courtesy (manners) and to cut down on the distraction factor, hats won't be worn during quizzes.
Please keep these in mind, if you are going to Nationals.

In the spirit of Father's Day

Three boys are in the school yard bragging about their fathers.

The first boy says, "My Dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a poem, they give him $50."

The second boy says, "That's nothing. My Dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a song, they give him $100."

The third boy says, "I got you both beat. My Dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a sermon... and it takes eight people to collect all the money!"

Pics from Adam's Graduation Party

We got there long after the crowds had left, but had a chance to take a few pictures at former quizzer Adam's (that's "OJ" to you old school quizzers) graduation party.

It is always humbling to see quizzers moving on from the "old life" to the next stage. God bless and good luck!

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there who provide the love, support, patience, and discipline that we need.
Psalm 103:13
As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him; (NIV)

Proverbs 3:11-12
My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline
and do not resent his rebuke,
because the LORD disciplines those he loves,
as a father the son he delights in.

Congrats, Adam!

The Quizzers Pad wants to extend its congratulations to former quizzer Adam, as well. Well done, and all our best wishes for the coming months and years as you begin the next stage of the journey in this thing we call "Life".

Nationals! Any Volunteers?

Most of you know that we are not planning to bring the team to Nationals this year. However, Ruth Bradley just wrote to say that even if you are not competing, quizzers at Nationals can have a role to play.
FYI - Also, even if you are not quizzing, your teens can avail themselves of the opportunity to take the Bible Knowledge and/or Bible Memory Challenge. There will be more info on the exact times and locations for that at Registration. Or if you have teens who would enjoy keeping time or keeping score on Monday and Tuesday afternoons - or either one of those if they cannot commit to both - the help is always needed.
If you are going to Nationals and would be interested in helping out, please e-mail the coaches ASAP so that we can alert Mrs. Bradley.

Happy Birthday, Palindrome!

All the coaches and quizzers here at QuizPad want to wish Palindrome a very happy birthday!

Tomorrow, the choir is going to put on a special musical event with lots of popular praise music, and lots of powerful testimony time. It will not be your regular church service. Every quizzer is encouraged to attend, and enjoy this unusual and powerful presentation.

The Bible In the Russian Parliament

It was not so long ago that Communism still held sway in Russia, and the Bible was banned almost everywhere. But times have certainly changed, and now the Russian govenment is sponsoring a Bible exhibit to remind them how scripture has molded Russian history.
The exhibition, ‘The Bible in Russia’, was held to mark a number of significant dates in the history of the Bible in Russia - the 950th anniversary of Ostromirov's Gospel, the oldest preserved manuscript in Russian, the 130th anniversary of the Synodal Bible, the first translation of the Bible into Russian, and the 50th anniversary of the first mass edition of the Bible in Russian, produced by the Russian Orthodox Church after the Communist revolution.
Politicians were able to learn of the ways in which the Bible has moulded and shaped Russia’s history and culture at the exhibition, jointly organised by the Bible Society in Russia, the Russian Orthodox Church Publishing Council and the Patriarchal Synodal Bible Commission.

Calvary 2 Wins!

Last Thursday was a momentous day, as it marked a turning point in the Calvary 2 softball season. Because they had turkey hotdogs after the game instead of beef, you ask? No! Because Calvary 2 WON THE GAME and soundly defeated their rivals! Go Calvary 2 Softball!

The next game is Wednesday at Indian Ledge Field in Trumbull.

Major League Soccer hosts "Faith Nights"

In an attempt to appeal to the Bible Belt, Major League Soccer has start hosting "Faith Nights", where Christian Rock bands are brought in to open the night, players wear bible verse jerseys, and fans are encouraged to show their love of God.
Faith Nights are testament to the church-going traditions that remain strong in the US, especially in the so-called Bible Belt states of the south. Fans who attend have a double priority: cheer for their team and cheer for the Lord while they are at it.
We should not be fooled but this. While it is a nice thing for people of faith to enjoy the sport more, it is a marketing decision by the league. We can enjoy these kinds of events, but should be careful not to confuse sport with religion.

Be careful what you say

I know this is a bit corny, but it tickled my funny bone today... or at least my irony bone.
A college student was in a philosophy class, where there was a class discussion about whether or not God exists, The professor had the following logic:

"Has anyone in this class heard God?" Nobody spoke.

"Has anyone in this class touched God?" Again, nobody spoke.

"Has anyone in this class seen God?" When nobody spoke for the third time, he simply stated, "Then there is no God."

The student did not like the sound of this at all, and asked for permission to speak.

The professor granted it, and the student stood up and asked the following questions of his classmates:

"Has anyone in this class heard our professor's brain?"
Silence.

"Has anyone in this class touched our professor's brain?"
Absolute silence.

"Has anyone in this class seen our professor's brain?" When nobody in the class dared to speak, the student concluded, "Then, according to our professor's logic, it must be true that our professor has no brain!"

The student received an "A" in the class.
