More on the National Bible Bee

While we quiz as a team, there are other ways to learn the Bible and and compete to sharpen that knowledge. One example is the National Bible Bee. And yes, similar to a Spelling Bee, it is all about complete knowledge of the text.

Jason Epps has cerebral palsy but has the attitude of a marathon runner. What others see as a disability, Jason views as a challenge.

This summer, instead of training on the track, he's flexing his brain. Along with 16,000 other youngsters across the country, Jason is preparing for a chance to compete at the first National Bible Bee in Washington.

"The way I look at it, it's just a way for me to get stronger," says the 16-year-old Freedom High School junior.

If you remember Coach Phil from Clinton Corners, he is now on staff with the National Bible Bee. So we have more than one connection to this national scriptural contest.

IMPORTANT: April 30th is last day to sign up for the Bible Bee

This is the LAST WEEK to sign up for the Bible Bee, and April 30th (Thursday) is the last day. If you want to sign up. this is the link. This is NOT an official Quiz Team activity, but several quizzers have already signed up, so you would not be alone.

The National Bible Bee is open to everyone 7-18 (as of Nov. 6, 2009). The local round will be held September 12th in Westport, and the winners will advance to the nationals in Washington D.C. A study guide will be available May 1, and it will provide a great opportunity for families to spend time together in preparation talking about what the bible says.

And by the way – it is not all from rote memory, most of it is multiple choice – so kids don’t have to worry about freezing up and being eliminated. There will be many questions which are general knowledge (not tied to a specific verse) and about what it means to be Christian. This will be a very friendly, supportive, and confidence building event.

Right now there are less than 7,000 registrations nationwide. Since the top 300 finalists will be going to the nationals, there is a very good chance of advancing to the finals where you can win the $25,000 to $100,000 prizes. But remember, everyone who participates and learns the Word of God recieves a blessing even greater.

We have received another e-mail from our local Bible Bee chairman who has asked us to remind you that signups for the National Bible Bee are due by April 30. You must participate in the local Bible Bee in order to be eligible for the national one.

We strongly recommend quizzers look into this as they are already well-prepared to study and quiz on scripture. And since this is a Bible Bee, jumping speed will not be a factor. To sign up click here.

Please be aware that the local Bee will be the same weekend as the Senior High Fall Retreat. Prayerfully consider which event the Lord would have you attend.

Fairfield County Bible Bee

We recently received notice that there will be a regional Bible Bee here in Fairfield County. This event will not have any cash prizes, but is a prerequisite if you are interested in competing at the NATIONAL Bible Bee in Washington DC.

The first nationwide bible bee is being held this year to encourage our youth to learn the Gospel and to be excited about their Christian faith.

It will provide a great opportunity for families to spend time together in preparation talking about what is most important: the Truth of Jesus Christ.

Signups are until April 30, and the event will be September 12. The location for all of southwestern CT is in Westport and there will be over 400 local competitions around the country.

The National Finalist event will be November 5-6 in Washington DC and there are prizes of $25,000 to $100,000 to be awarded, but everyone who participates and learns the Word of God recieves a blessing even greater.

A 2nd exciting event is Scriptorium 2009, a celebration of Scripture April 24th - 26th as Scripture enthusiasts from all over converge on Hannibal, MO to quote through Scripture.
