If you've been watching the situation in Sudan, you'll have realized one important fact about maps.  They're always changing!  Changes in geography, climate, politics, and religion are constantly changing boundaries between regions and nations.  Can you imagine how much the map has changes in the 2000+ years since Christ walked the Earth?
