The Bible upon which George Washington laid his hand and took his historic oath of office, making him the first president of the newly formed United States of America, will be on public display at the Newburyport Masonic Building, 31 Green St., from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday. The Bible is an integral part of American history. While separation of Church and State is important to us, it is important to remember this separation did not mean weeding God completely out of public life. Government is a reflection of the People, and if the Bible is important to the People it can be important to our public gatherings.
