Acts 1:1
Reading through the first chapter of Acts, it is common to wonder who Theophilus was. The Bible is not clear on his identity. However, the gospel of Luke is addressed to the same man (Luke 1:1-4), so it appears that whoever he was, Luke took him very seriously!
However, a clue to who this man was may be in his name! In the time of Jesus, Greek was the language of the Roman Empire (though Latin and Aramaic were also common).
THEO - Greek for GodTherefore, Thophilus means "One Who Loves God." This may be a sign that whoever the recipient of these books was, he was eager to learn as much as he could about the workings of God on Earth.
