It is the time of year when parents and teens start realizing the school year is upon them. Now is when schedules are set, and people decide what they will be doing for the next year. We're hoping that many of them are thinking about Bible Quizzing at Calvary! If you have a friend or a friend's parent who is wondering about Quizzing, this may be a useful post to direct them to.
WHAT IS BIBLE QUIZZING?
Bible Quizzing is a fun way to provide an intellectual and competitive outlet for teens who have an interest in the Bible. It is open to any teens who are interested in dedicating themselves to learning a book (or books) of the Bible from the New Testament and competing with other churches to test their knowledge.
WHAT KIND OF COMMITMENT WOULD IT REQUIRE?
Every Wednesday: The Bible Quizzing Team meets for practice at Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Trumbull, CT.
Every Week: Each team member is expected to have studied a chapter of the assigned book prior to practice.
Every Month: We attend a practice Quiz Meet with other Evangelical Free churches. Usually, this will be in Essex Fells, NJ. The teens usually leave the church at 7 PM and arrive back between 3 PM and 5 PM depending on traffic and the number of rounds in the Meet.
Twice a Year: We attend special Quizzing Competitions in Lancaster, NJ (Midwinter) and Hershey, PA (Districts) These competitions include an overnight stay.
Cost: There is a nominal fee to pay for quizzing materials for the district, a charge for gas if you attend a meet (van provided by church), and we typically get t-shirts for the team at some point in the year. If money is an issue, please contact the coaches.
WHAT BOOK OF THE BIBLE ARE YOU STUDYING THIS YEAR?
Acts. We study in the New International Version, so that all quizzers are competing on exactly the same material.
WHERE CAN I LEARN MORE?
We have a "Quiz Team Kickoff" meeting scheduled for August 30 at Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Trumbull, CT. . This is an event open to parents and teens interested in finding out quizzing. You can come on out and meet the coaches, see the other teens who are joining this year, and get a feel for what quizzing is about each week.
