WEEK 29: Review 2 Peter 1-3
This week (March 29 to April 4), please review 2 Peter, Chapters 1-3 (i.e. the entire book)
If you want to read the chapters online, click here. (Free website Biblegateway.Com)
Listen to the chapters here.
Study Tip: This next week is Holy Week. It begins Sunday with Palm Sunday (remembering Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem), continues Maundy Thursday (remembering the Last Supper), Good Friday (remembering Christ's death on the cross), Holy Saturday (remembering the silence and fear of the disciples), and ends the following Sunday with Easter (remembering the Resurrection!). Think about how each day reflects upon the material you're reading, and be looking for references back to this time. Holy Week is the central part of the Christian story (until He comes again) and you can find many allusions to it in all of Peter's writings.

Useful study tips
We try to give you a good study tip every week here on the website, but sometimes it is helpful to go outside for advice and get a different perspective. This site has a list of study tips that may be useful to you as a quizzer. For example...
Review is the most important things you can do when trying to learn or memorize new material. Studies show that if you don't use information you loose it. Review old information as often and as much as possible. If you don't review you are just wasting your time. What good does it do you to spend hours studying if you're only going to forget it a month later?

Keywords!
Keyword, also known as "once used words", are specific words that are used only once in all three of the books we are currently studying. If you learn these words, they can be of great help in figuring out where you are when you hear them in a question. Consider spending some extra time with the keywords list in the coming weeks leading up to Districts!

Study Tip: We're now in the season of Lent, when Christians celebrate the weeks before Jesus's death on the cross and resurrection from the dead. It is traditional at this time among some Christians to give up something, in order share in some small way with Christ's suffering. If you're still unable to find time to study, perhaps you might choose something to give up for Lent (maybe a favorite TV program) to provide more time to spend in the scriptures.

Do you know the rules of Bible Quizzing?
It is almost exactly a month to Districts now. We've been quizzing all year, learning how quizzes work, how quiz meets work, what you need to know to win. But have you ever actually sat down and gone over the rules? Remember that you can always find the official ECA Bible Quizzing rules here. You just may want to review them before Districts, especially if this is your first year!

DON'T FORGET: Review the Reference & FTV questions!
As you are reviewing the chapters these next few weeks, don't forget to go over the list of special questions. This is especially useful if you've fallen behind on your studying, but still want to make a difference, because references and FTVs are from a specific, finite list, instead of being all three books. Consider this as a way to get ahead or stay ahead!

Should we celebrate St. Patrick?
For a sincere Christian, St. Patrick's Day can be a confusing time. In theory, it is a celebration of a particular Christian man who ministered in Ireland. But it has become - in American usage - simply a time to celebrate Irish culture. And among some, it has become little more than an excuse to drink Irish beer and carouse. Is this a holiday we should observe at all?
Well, luckily, much is known about Patrick, and it turns out he was a true follower of Jesus and a powerful evangelist. This is a man whose life is worth remembering!
Well, luckily, much is known about Patrick, and it turns out he was a true follower of Jesus and a powerful evangelist. This is a man whose life is worth remembering!
As a boy of fourteen or so, he was captured during a raiding party and taken to Ireland as a slave to herd and tend sheep. Ireland at this time was a land of Druids and pagans. He learned the language and practices of the people who held him...Patrick's captivity lasted until he was twenty, when he escaped after having a dream from God in which he was told to leave Ireland by going to the coast. There he found some sailors who took him back to Britian, where he reunited with his family.Remembering great men of the Faith is important, so long as we always keep our eyes on Jesus, as they did.
He had another dream in which the people of Ireland were calling out to him "We beg you, holy youth, to come and walk among us once more."
Patrick began preaching the Gospel throughout Ireland, converting many. He and his disciples preached and converted thousands and began building churches all over the country. Kings, their families, and entire kingdoms converted to Christianity when hearing Patrick's message.

Study Tip: What is your best strategy for review? There are two ways to approach these weeks: (1) Learn what you missed the first time around, or (2) Cement the stuff you know well by reading it again and quizzing yourself relentlessly. Consider carefully which way is best for you. If you joined late, definitely consider Option 1. It is your chance to catch up to the other quizzers. If you have been here since day 1, strongly consider Option 2. Either way, do your best to be an asset at Districts!

Districts is NEXT!
The March Quiz Meet is over. We've studied our last week of new material in Hebrews, 1 Peter, and 2 Peter. So, what is next?
DISTRICTS!!!
Districts is the last quiz of the year, against all of the churches in the Eastern District. It will be in Sparta, NJ this year, and will be an all-day trip. Lower division will quiz lower division, Upper division will quiz upper division. Get psyched! This is our motivation over the next few weeks, as we review.

Are you completing the puzzles? And most of all, are you getting your friends and families involved with your studying regimen? If you're not using everything at your disposal, you're probably not getting the best results.

Question: But do // not forget...
Answer: ...this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:8-9)
Question: But the day //of the Lord...
Answer: ...will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. (2 Peter 3:10)
Question: Since everything // will be destroyed...
Answer: ...in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. (2 Peter 3:11-12)
Question: But grow // in the grace...
Answer: ...and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. (2 Peter 3:18)
