Are Christian filmmakers changing Hollywood?
It is unlikely you missed the impact of the movie Fireproof, along with such Christian-themed movies such as The Chronicles of Narnia and The Passion of the Christ. Now, Hollywood itself is taking note of Christian filmmakers and their influence on the culture.
Instead of just complaining about sex and violence, Phillips says, Christians must make films that reflect their own values. He says he started the film festival five years ago when he realized that Christians were losing the hearts and minds of the young.
"What is the single biggest influence on our families?" he asks. "I wish I could tell you the biggest single influence were churches, but that regretfully is not the case. The truth of the matter is, it is the media the people take in which are shaping and forming ideas."

Copying the Bible By Hand
For thousands of years, scripture was copied not by printing press or by inkjet, but by hand as rabbis, scribes, and monks painstakingly transcribed the Bible from papyrus to parchment to vellum by hand. It was a meticulously detailed process as workers looked to exactly duplicate old copies before they wore out. Now, Bible Across America tour is looking to bring that experience to the average American Christian.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the New International Version of the Bible, the publishing house Zondervan is inviting people across the U.S. to copy a verse in their own hand. Not many people can say that they have studied a single book of the Bible, and fewer still can say they have read the Bible from cover to cover. How many can claim to have hand-copied scripture?
"What better way than to let everyone participate?" said Moe Girkins, chief executive of Zondervan, the North American publisher of the NIV Bible, as it's commonly known. "Anywhere people love the Bible, we want to go."
The six-month Bible Across America tour is visiting 90 cities and will include contributions from all 50 states.

Study Tip: Did you know that when you sleep, your mind continues to work on whatever you were thinking about last before you fell asleep? If you are working through an especially difficult passage of scripture, sometimes it can be helpful to study it and work with it right before bed. Then your subconscious can work on it as you sleep (warning, you may dream about quizzing!) and when you wake up, you may find the passage more deeply ingrained into your mind.

Study Tip: Do read through the text of scripture and find at the end that you know barely more than you did at the beginning? Do you envy those who can read it once, and be able to quiz effectively? Different people learn in different ways. Some people can do it by simply reading, others by listening. But you may be a learner who needs to really engage the text. Consider taking notes as you read - note down really interesting sections, questions that the text raises, notable phrases, etc. At the end, you will have applied not only your eyes but all the parts of your brain, and the learning may very well be far more effective. Oh, and don't forget to call, e-mail, or speak to the coaches, your parents, or the pastors to get the answers to those questions you had.

Delivering the Bible via the Newspaper
The Bible is God's message to the world, but even in America there are many who have never read it. Groups like the Gideons give out Bibles at schools, place them in hotel rooms, and bring them to prisoners. For the Superbowl, a group of Christians distributed Bibles via the newspaper to over 56,000 residents of Tampa.
The effort was spearheaded by a pair of local residents who raised about $127,000 from 15 area churches and 19 local businesses, including McNichols Co., AnazaoHealth Corp., Ferman Automotive Group, Idlewild Baptist Church, Florida Dental Centers and Bayshore Baptist Church.
The front cover of the 200-plus-page, paperback-sized edition features retired Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy and the Tampa skyline. The organization, based in Colorado Springs, Colo., has also released Path to Victory, a football-themed New Testament featuring testimonies from Dungy and Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner.
