Districts will be April 19!
There has been some confusion about the date of Districts (formerly known as High Gear or Round-up) for the final Quiz Meet of the year. The original date was late in the month, and the church calendar showed this date until just this weekend, due to a mix-up in communication. But the actual date will be April 19. We will probably leave that Friday and return that Sunday.
Hopefully this clarification will help any parents trying to plan their own housing for that weekend. And everyone else trying to plan their April in general.

WEEK 30: Review Galatians
This week (March 27 thru April 2), please study the whole book of Galatians
If you want to read the chapters online, click here. (Free website Biblegateway.Com)
If you want to listen to the chapters online, click here. (Uses the free RealPlayer.)
If you would like to review the reference questions from Galatians, click here. (Thanks to the EFCA.)
If you would like to review the keywords, click here (Uses free barefootministries.com)
Study Tip: Reviewing whole books can be tricky, because there is so much content to cover. There are three options which work for most quizzers, looking for an effective review:
1. Don't study the whole book. Identify your weakest chapter and focus there. Review over and over and over.
2. Rather than trying for detailed studies of each chapter, look for ways to learn the book as a complete unit. (Listen to it on CD over and over, create outlines of the book, learn key verses to identify the major sections of the book.)
3. Quiz, quiz, quiz, quiz, quiz. If #1 and #2 do not sound right for you, it is time to break out the question lists and quiz yourself over and over. Find a partner - another quizzer, a friend, or a family member, and spend at least an hour a day being quizzed over and over and over to get comfortable with the process.
Reminder: The Quiz Meet is on SATURDAY at CHS. Please arrive at 8:30 AM (at the loading dock in back) to help set up. Each quizzer should bring a bottle of soda (or other drink) and each family should bring a snack/finger food. Wear your new Quiz Team uniforms! $5 per person for pizza. Any questions? Call Coach Jim ASAP!

What do you call the Saturday between Good Friday and Easter/Resurrection Sunday?
Every year we hear about "Maundy Thursday" (the day Jesus was betrayer, celebrated with sadness), "Good Friday" (the day Jesus was crucified, and we were redeemed), and "Easter" or "Resurrection Sunday" (the day Jesus rose from the grave). But what do you call the Saturday in the middle of all of that? Turns out there is an answer.
Holy Saturday: the Jewish SabbathIt is interesting to think that even in Jesus's death, God observed the Sabbath as a day of rest, where no visible action was taken.
Jesus rested in the tomb on the Sabbath. According to Matthew 28:1, Mark 16:1-3, and Luke 23:56-24:3, the day before the Resurrection was a Sabbath. This is the second day that Jesus lay in the tomb.

WEEK 29: Keep Studying Philemon 1

Study Tip: One of the hardest things in life is to return to someone you have wronged, and face the music. And this is what Philemon is all about. Onesimus had fled his Christian master, Philemon, and is returning to him as a brother in Christ. As you read the book this week, ask yourself when you have had to make the hard choice to face up to what you have done... or when someone else has had to come to you and confess. What advice does Paul have for each side? Personalizing your study can drive it deep into your heart and mind.

If you are working through an especially difficult passage of scripture, sometimes it can be helpful to study it and work with it right before bed. Then your subconscious can work on it as you sleep (warning, you may dream about quizzing!) and when you wake up, you may find the passage more deeply ingrained into your mind.
Study Challenge: Can you memorize the entire book (chapter) of Philemon? If you want to be able to tell your friends and family that you have memorize a WHOLE book of the Bible, this is your best chance.

Why is Easter so early this year?
Have you noticed how early Easter is this year? Have you been wondering why the date is not fixed, as it is with Christmas? The American Bible Society has the answer for the curious.
Easter is a moveable feast, so to speak, because it is not fixed in relation to the civil calendar and every year when the winter thaw begins, there is uncertainty as to its exact date. Easter is observed on the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the Spring Equinox (March 20 or 21, depending on the Earth’s position). Easter is calculated according to lunar and solar calendars and is on a different date each year.

Study Tip: Socrates once said "The unexamined life is not worth living." Are you really aware of your own study habits - your strengths and your weaknesses? If not, take some time this week to think about HOW you study, and to find some ways to improve your method. If you don't stop and look at yourself from time to time, you may miss the invasion of bad habits or the chance to improve yourself. If you are unable to examine your own study habits, ask a parent or a friend who may know you better than you know yourself.

Rescuing the Torah
Since Gutenberg starting printing Bibles in mass quantities, Protestants have often undervalued any individual Bible because there were so many around. I found this photo on Flickr of a Jewish Torah being rescued after Hurricane Katrina, which shows much more how holy and sacred the Jewish community views their Bibles.

"Bible" marketing can go too far
Sometimes as Christians, we can be tempted to embrace every new fad which is "Bible-based" in order to show our allegiance to our faith. But sometimes marketers simple glom onto a "Bible-based" theme in order to sell things to well-meaning but gullible Christians. Consider "The Bible Bar".
The Bible Bar is a highly nutritious, all natural whole food bar based on the seven foods which the LORD calls "good" in the Book of Deuteronomy... Please note how, in this scripture, God uses these specific foods to describe the goodness of the Promised Land. We at Logia believe that God had a very important reason for singling out these seven foods. That’s why we sought a way to offer them to the public in a convenient, all-inclusive food product and that’s how the Bible Bar came about.Don't get me wrong, for all I know this is a fine product. But as intelligent Christians we need to be mindful of people looking to take advantage of our love of the Lord and His Word. "Caveat emptor" (buyer beware) is always good advice, especially when someone tries to imply "any real Christian will buy my product."
