I am a big fan of BibleGateway, but it is hardly the only free Bible-search website out there. A new one on the block is eBible which contains BOTH a searchable form of the NIV translation AND a set of commentaries to use with notes on just about every verse in the Bible. If you are really looking for a website to help with a study in-depth as well as in breadth, this may be a great resource for you.
