What is "All Saints Day"?

Ever since the establishment of Halloween as the center of the Candy Companies sales calendar, we have forgotten that the scary holiday comes right before a "holy holiday" called "All Saints Day." What is it? For the Protestant church, the short answer is that it is a day to remember the martyrs of the church, and the sacrifice they willingly gave for their Lord.
