Well, Midwinter was cancelled by yesterday's snowstorm. So what does that mean for our schedule going forward?

- We are still doing a review for Wednesday's practice. (All of Hebrews, 1 Peter 1-2)
- Midwinter will not be rescheduled. The scheduling complexity of the various churches involved is too great.
- We are working out dates right now for Quiz Meets in February and March
- Districts will be April 21 in Sparta, NJ

We just got the word. Due to a severe snowstorm predicted for Saturday in Lancaster, PA, the Midwinter Quiz has been cancelled. While things would have been fine for our trip tonight, teams travelling tomorrow would have been driving through dangerous weather. We're very sorry to have to be the bearers of this bad news. We'll see you Wednesday for practice.

If you're going to Midwinter and have a lot of catching up to do, focus especially on the last few chapters of Hebrews (Midwinter will be on all of Hebrews). And if you want to specialize, pay special attention to the Reference Questions or Finish-the-Verse Questions lists.

We anticipate one of the highlights of our trip next weekend will be the Tabernacle Recreation run by Mennonite Information Center of Lancaster, PA. It is a full, life-sized recreation of the Biblical Tabernacle that the Israelite carried with them in the Wilderness and served as their center of worship from the time they left Egypt until Solomon built the Temple in Jerusalem. Tabernacle literally means "tent", as the Tabernacle was a mobile temple carried from place to place.

Midwinter Quiz begins NEXT FRIDAY (January 20) so now is the time to sit down and make sure you fully understand what to expect for this fun weekend! Take a moment to read thru this handy-dandy QnA session.

WHAT IS MIDWINTER QUIZ? It is our annual mid-season quiz with ALL of the Quiz Teams in the Eastern District of the EFCA (We expect 6 Upper Division teams, and 4 Lower division teams). It one of only two times in the year that all teams quiz together.

WHEN IS IT? We leave Friday, January 20 after school and return home Sunday, January 22 in the early afternoon.

WHAT TIME DO WE LEAVE ON FRIDAY? About 3 PM from the Calvary Church parking lot. Please be prompt! If you'll be late, tell Jim by Wednesday's practice!

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? There is an $18 quizzing fee which covers all quizzing materials for Midwinter, as well as lunch at both Midwinter and Districts (the season-ending quiz meet). You should also plan for 3 meals - Friday dinner, Saturday dinner, and Sunday lunch. About $20 should be sufficient. Quizzers may wish to bring extra spending money as well.

WHAT DOES EACH DAY ENTAIL?
- Friday will be traveling down to Lancaster, PA (the actual church is in Lititz, PA) and be introduced to our host families.
- Saturday, we will quiz in the morning, have lunch at the church, go to the Tabernacle Recreation after lunch, go to the Outlets, and have dinner at Fuddruckers before returning to host families.
- Sunday, we will attend church at LEFC, stop for lunch, and return to the church between 2 and 4 PM (depending on traffic).

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
1. Quiz Team shirt for Saturday (If you don't have one, wear a BLUE top, if you want one, Coach Mark will be selling them Wednesday)
2. Church clothes for Sunday (NO JEANS, NO SHORTS!)
3. Comfy traveling clothes for Sunday (You will be allowed to change after church)
4. Scripture portion (or full Bible) & any study aids you want
5. A duffle bag for all of your packing. No hard suitcases, please
6. A sleeping bag for sleeping at your host home (a pillow is fine too, but make sure it is packable)
7. If you bring a carry-on for the mini-bus, please make sure it can fit under your seat!
8. A winter coat. Dress warmly! The forecast is unknown at this point, but it is called Mid-Winter for a reason.

Study Tip: For some people, the best way to make the Bible a priority in your life is to put it at the start of every day. Rather than waiting for after homework, dinner, or whatever else you normally put before studying, consider setting your alarm 15 minutes earlier in the morning and spending that time reading thru that week's chapter. This can set the tone for your day, and give you a chance to apply the lessons of the chapter in your daily life.

It's again time for our annual Bible Quiz Team Christmas Party! This year, the party will be on December 9 and we're hoping all quizzers and their families can attend!

WHEN IS IT? December 9, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM

WHERE IS IT? Calvary Church in the old Fellowship Hall (downstairs in the old building)

WHO IS INVITED? All quizzers and their families.

WHAT IS THE COST? There is no monetary cost, but we ask each family to bring an appetizer, entree, or desert. Please contact Coach Jim to work out the details for your family.

WHAT WILL WE DO? Eat a good dinner, conversate, watch a Christmas video, and play our annual "Gift Game".

WHAT IS THE GIFT GAME? All quizzers (but no family members, sorry!) are welcome to bring a wrapped gift costing between $5 and $10. We'll then do our own version of a "Yankee Swap" to see who goes home with which gift. It's lots of fun!

Study Tip: During the holiday season, it becomes increasingly difficult to stay focused on Quiz Team. Parties, concerts, plays, etc. eat more and more into your daily study time. How do you cope? First, accept the fact that your life will have competing priorities and that sometimes Quiz Team can't be #1. Second, realize that we only HAVE time if we MAKE TIME. Set aside some time every day for studying. Make it the same time, as much as possible, and try to be disciplined. Eventually, study time will become a habit, and something you won't have to work so hard to keep up.
